With the barrage of information and social media content available on the virus pandemic, one message that was posted recently resonates with us : “<em>Nothing should go back to normal, Normal wasn’t working, If we go back to the way things were we would have lost the lesson, May we rise up and do better</em>”. May we strive to achieve this.<br>

In our first newsletter we mentioned that we would provide industry updates and to that end we asked Ian Massey of MDA to provide us with an industry overview in this edition, which we have included below (the message was pre-lockdown however is now, more-so-than-ever still valid).</span></span></span><br>

At the beginning of last year, I made a presentation at the Construction Risk Expo held at the Durban Exhibition Centre.<br>
In my presentation, I analysed the tender statistics for the previous two years, which made for sobering reading. There is a lot of talk about contracts out to tender but not a lot about contracts awarded. Our state-owned infrastructure project teams seem to be optimistic in their planning, however not many of these projects are converted to reality, allowing Contractor’s much needed order books to be filled up. None of this is good news for the Industry.<br>

This and the added unprecedented burden that COVID-19 has placed on our economy further threatens our industry. When and how will it end? <br>
