Bridge jacking on pier 8 of one of the two incrementally launch bridges for the Key Ridge project near Hammersdale west of Durban.

The jacking was necessary to remove and replace a sliding pad that was installed upside down during the launching of segment 12 of 36, and as a result it got stuck between the bridge deck soffit and the surface of the temporary launch bearing.

The jacking consisted of 3x 250t hydraulic jacks positioned either side of each of the 2x temporary launch bearings, giving a lifting capacity of 1400t at each launch bearing.  One hydraulic pump was used per 6x jacks at each bearing location to ensure a perfectly synchronised lifting operation of the 6x jacks to ensure even load distribution

The deck was lifted successfully and the sliding pad removed and replaced for launching to continue.

Another successfull operation by the PTS-S site team on the project.
